One of the aims of Southend Carnival Association is to raise funds for local charities. In addition to the Carnival Estates Fund and the Southend Hospital Foundation we provide grants to other local community organisations.

To qualify for a grant you must be a voluntary organisation or registered charity operating in the Borough of Southend-on-Sea.

National Charities can apply for a grant but within any application you will need to explain how a grant will bring benefit to the people of Southend. E.g a national charity raising money for a Southend project can apply but a national charity requesting running costs would not qualify.

Three types of grants are available:

Small Grants - In year grants of £100 or less – applications can be made at any point in the year. These are to provide support for one-off purchases and can not be used for running costs. An example of items that has been funded from this grant programme is seeds for a children’s gardening project.

Medium Grants – up to £500 – application must be received by 30th September each year and award will be made by 31st October the same year. These are to provide support for one-off purchases and can not be used for running costs

Main Appeal – Each year the Association supports a local voluntary group or charity. The support provided is both financial and promotion of the work of the selected organisation. Applications to be the Main Appeal must be received by 30th September each year. The support given will run from 1st November each year to 31st October the following year , when the grant will be paid.
