Opportunities
The Carnival in Southend is the largest Community Event in the town and to
enable it to operate each year around 200 volunteers give up some time to work
on the events or support one of the many back-office activities like finance or
promotion work.
Roles available include:
Event Co-ordinators – each event that the Association runs has an Event
Co-ordinator who is responsible for bringing together every aspect of the event
including the venue , Health and Safety , applications for licences and running
the event.
Fundraising Officer – working with Making Carnival Count , the Associations
strategy for Carnival in Southend , Develop a funding strategy for the operation
of the event in the town and provide help and assistance with applications to
funders.
Carnival Fair Gate Stewards – responsible for manning the gates at the fair and
collecting the admission charge. 4 hour shifts (2pm to 6pm or 6pm to 10pm) from
August 12th to August 20th – light refreshments provided
Procession Steward – working on the procession , responsible for assisting in
the set-up area and dispersal area of the procession - August 20th (5pm to 11pm)
Promotion Staff – working at events during the summer and during Carnival 2011
day promoting participation in Carnival events. Various dates through the
summer.
Carnival Arts Co-ordinator – working with the Carnival Crossroads Project to
promote Carnival Arts across Southend , introducing new people to this art form
and looking for funding opportunities. This post could lead to employment
opportunities.
